conventions of music magazines

All magazines follow the same rules and music magazines are no exception.
front cover

  • The header/logo/image/colour scheme must all fit the the genre of the magazine, and appeal to the target audience.
  • The front cover of a magazine usually contains a picture of well known stars, the dominant image
  • The most common MOD is direct address, as it seems to invite the reader in
  • The cover is the main advertisement of the entire magazine, as it is representing the magazine as a whole. so it must be bright/interesting/eye catching
  • A variety of fonts should be used to be eye catching
Contents page

  • This page should also be bright & colourful
  • Images dominate the text, so images with page numbers are usually included
  • Title of magazine will also appear on every page including the conetnts page
  • A list of the contents of the magazine
Feature article

  • Headlines and subheading to explain the story and to catch the audiences interest
  • The star must have something to say, to be featured in the magazine
  • Again one image must dominate the article, there maybe smaller images included
  • Text grabs are important (makes the audience want to read the article (usually contraversial, funny or rude)
  • Writing must be clear, easy to follow. In music magazines the writing tends to be informal (slang may even occur
